Meet the Information Technology Teams

At SUNY Buffalo State University, the staff who work for Information Technology are passionate about technology, promoting student success, and helping students get ready for the ever-evolving digital workspace of the 21st century. We want our services to simplify the lives of the Buffalo State community and expand opportunities for our students, faculty and staff.

The role of the Chief Information Officer (CIO) is to provide leadership and strategic direction for the use of technology across the institution. The CIO is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and management of information technology systems and services that support the goals and objectives of the university. This includes managing a wide range of technology initiatives, including academic and administrative systems, cybersecurity, network and infrastructure, and data management. The CIO also plays a key role in supporting and promoting the use of technology to enhance teaching and learning, research, and administration. The ultimate goal of the CIO is to help the institution achieve its mission by leveraging technology to support its objectives and goals. 

Meet the members of the CIO office

The Enterprise Systems team will manage all core Enterprise Applications’ platforms and tools, including the Banner SIS, and will provide oversight for institutional Data Governance.  This team will also work to streamline access to data for the campus community and offer routine data analysis services. Enterprise Systems also provides integration, testing and programming support for existing and emerging ancillary systems that utilize or exchange data housed within core Enterprise systems.

Meet the Enterprise Systems team

Enterprise Infrastructure Services will provide planning, management, and support for the campus network; and system-level hardware resources for servers, storage, backup, and centralized data center environments to ensure that long-term sustainability, reliability, and capacity needs for the campus are met. This team will also manage and support the emerging VoIP platform, legacy telephone services, and user account services, as well as the campus's electronic access control and security camera systems.

Meet the Enterprise Infrastructure Services team

The Project Management Information Services team provides leadership for planning, developing, implementing, evaluating, and managing campus-wide and cross-divisional information technology initiatives. Supports the university with business process improvement and organizational effectiveness capacity, which includes: process improvement, project management, change management, strategic planning support, program analysis and evaluation, organizational design, financial analysis, and business plan development support.

Meet the Project Management team

The Technology Support Services (TSS) team provides direct front-end support to the entire campus community. This team installs and maintains all campus-owned computer equipment in offices and computer labs, as well as the AV and presentation equipment in smart classrooms. TSS is responsible for providing technical assistance to faculty, staff and students in various areas including password/login help, email, software, printing, and wireless connectivity. This team also plays a crucial role in the maintenance and support of the IT self-service portal through which the campus community interacts with IT (i.e., opening tickets to request technology-related services, searching the Knowledge Base for 'how to' articles, etc).
